Childhood nutrition: The origin of addictions and harmful behaviors

It has now become "normalized" for children to exhibit behavioral deficiencies such as lack of attention, isolation, aggression, among others. Esto ocasiona problemas en el colegio y en casa.

Many people are unaware that a large percentage of these behaviors is caused by a deficient childhood diet. Unfortunately, modern medicine, psychology, and nutrition do not fully understand the effects that food has on the intestinal, nutritional, and brain levels.

Sugars, flours, dairy, and processed foods harm children as they cause diseases such as diabetes, obesity, allergies, recurrent infections, and many other illnesses.

But that's not all, they alter brain function, causing harmful mental states that lead to unhealthy behaviors.

As demonstrated in many studies and as mentioned by Pilar Mora, PhD in her book, the brain's reward system works with neurotransmitters that are controlled by the gut microbiota and is essential in terms of addictions and related behaviors. This mechanism is vital for the survival and adaptation of all people, and it is also crucial for experiencing the pleasure of eating, socializing, exercising, learning, and laughing.

When intestinal neurotransmitters become addicted, the brain needs the release that food provides to feel satisfaction. An addictive food creates this circumstance, as if it "hijacks" the reward system, creating dependence. Nothing else brings pleasure, nothing satisfies... only the addiction provides happiness.

This is how the mind is linked to food, needing more and more dopamine release.

We know that one of the strongest addictions is sugar. A child with consumption habits of this product will likely become a heavy consumer of alcohol or even an alcoholic. The chances of drug addiction will increase. Additionally, their behaviors will be governed by this addiction, and the learning and socialization problems that arise during childhood will not be corrected, on the contrary, they will only worsen.

It is very common to reward children with cakes, sweets, lollipops, candies, and many parents really know the problem it is to try to take these foods away from children (and even they themselves are unable to stop eating them). We live immersed in a world that fills us with sugar, flours, and dairy, with the idea that they are "healthy," when science has proven that this is not the case.

It is essential to know how our body works and how food affects us. Eradicating harmful behaviors during childhood is important not only because it improves childhood life, allows for healthy growth, prevents harmful behaviors, but also enables clear decision-making.

In the MEISI book, you will find information to improve children's nutrition, which will be reflected not only in their health but also in their learning, behavior, and overall well-being.

In the cookbook of Transformative Cooking you will find a practical guide to carry out this methodology.
